Assateague State Park is on Assateague Island (Berlin, MD). The park features a 2 mile beach, a bayside where you can explore coves by canoe or kayak, marina, and a marsh where you can see wild horses. Visitors may also swim, surf, bike, and fish in the area. The bayside offers visitors the chance to explore secluded coves by canoe or kayak. The marsh areas have a variety of wildlife, including deer, waterfowl and feral horses.

Dogs may go camping on campsites and adjacent beach to Loops H, I and J (sites J1- 1-J 13 only).  Dogs are not permitted in the walk-up sites in Loop J. Dogs need to be up to date on vaccines and you must show rabies vaccination at check-in. Call the CAMIS Call Center at 1-888-432-2267 for reservations or reserve online. The park is in the process of revising the campsite. You should try to reserve months in advance.

The park is a the end of Stephen Decatur Highway Route 611. Dogs are allowed in day-use areas from Labor Day to the Friday before Memorial Day. Dogs are NOT permitted north of Assateague State Park to the Ocean City inlet.

The park may close if at full capacity, especially during the busy holiday weekends of the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. Don’t forget to bring insect repellent from May to November when mosquitos are out! If you plan to go early in April or after September, expect evening temperatures to be cold. If you want to venture out of the area for a day or to grab a bite, stop by Ocean City or Berlin which are 8-9 miles away. South of the area is Assateague Island National Seashore, a national park.
