Teach Your Dog To Take A Bow
Special Interest: Games TricksIndoor Play
Have a show-dog on your hands or one that loves to be the center of attention? Why not teach him to take a bow so that he can wow all of his on-lookers and fans!
Have your dog stand in front of you. Hold a treat at your dog’s mouth, say “bow”, and move your hand straight down to the floor while gently pushing on your dog’s upper back. Your dog’s head should go down while his butt remains up. Be careful not to push up on his nose or your dog may sit instead. If your dog is getting into a down position, hold up your dog’s belly towards the back and repeat the exercise. As soon as your dog bows, give him a release command such as “yes” or “ok” and give him the treat. Over time, you can introduce a hand gesture to make your dog bow. Train by using the “bow” command with your hand gesture and slowly decrease use of the command.
Remember to be patient with your dog – he doesn’t have a long attention span so practice with your dog for a few minutes and then come back to it again later.
It’s showtime! Let’s see your dog take a bow!
