Oregon Ridge is one of our favorite “local” hikes. Today we went on the Orange Trail around the lake which was recently cleaned up with the construction of a new pavilion next to the lake (old swimming hole). Carmella loves the sun and we found a spot where she was just so happy. Love to see her smile!!

This plastic egg is one of Carmella’s favorite toys, but it’s so loud! The elliptical shape if the toy makes it hard to get and then Carmella has fun trying to get a hold of it! Just like live prey. And she can’t refuse a moving ball! Plastic is very durable and has a slippery surface. To note, Carmella can bite through black Kongs no problem.
Snuggling selfies on the sofa with Carmella!
I don’t think I ever really had to teach Carmella to fetch and retrieve a ball. Carmella always went after the ball without a problem! Dropping the ball, however, seems to be something we will always struggle with. I can only distract her with another ball or toy to get her to drop!
I love this photo of me hiking in the Adirondacks, NY. It was a trip that I took with my sisters and one of my favorites. What a great hiking experience we had. And a classic shot!

We do disc rollers a lot! I keep the cheap Petco soft plastic frisbees around for rough frisbee play. Carmella has really high prey drive so she will go after anything that moves. She can’t refuse a rolling disc on the ground. This is way better to her than a walk around the block. She gets tired fast running around everywhere. We always bring extra water and some treats with us.Playtime is usually 15 minutes or 30 if we are mixing it up with non-running exercises or just resting.
October 2014 – Carmella ran with me frequently on short weekday runs as I was training for a half-marathon. I took me some time to teach her not to cross my path while running (very dangerrous) but she loves going out with me. Our first 5k together was the Barctoberfest at Patterson Park, Baltimore. We dressed up in black tutus and orange hair (Mohawk on dog, pigtails on me) and eyelashes. Don’t we make a lovely pair? One of my favorite moments with Carmella.
November 2017 – We went out for a hike this morning and passed by this interesting stump! Reminded me of the sword throne in Game of Thrones. Suitable for Carmella, queen of the forest! lol.
